  Armel BRUCELLE

Armel BRUCELLE worked as a press photographer for the SYGMA Agency between 1974 and 1993, and, from his home in Isère, he covered national and regional news for many years for the Rhone-Alpes FIGARO MAGAZINE. His first book was based on a photographic record of his own village “Saint-Chef aux couleurs du temps” (1989). This was followed in 1991 by “NORD ISERE, regards et empreintes” which he edited himself.

It was whilst helping out her husband with this second book that Laurence BRUCELLE discovered that she enjoyed the research side of publishing. So when Armel was looking for someone to edit his third book she was the obvious choice. She left her medical background and the world of black and white X-rays for colour photography and historical research. Much-travelled, she had lived in New Caledonia, Senegal and Tahiti, and looked fondly back on sun-filled days and happy memories. So when the couple decided they needed a change of scene - and a spice of adventure - it was not surprising that they ended up in the South of France. From their new base in Pourrières, a small charming Varois village in the very heart of Provence, they soon took to exploring their new countryside and its fascinating past.

They loved the local architecture and fell under the charm of its history, so, encouraged by the success of their latest family collaboration “ISERE, terre de châteaux” (1994), they have been publishing further works, based on Provence, and on Armel BRUCELLE’s talent for the art of photography.

They published “PROVENCE, explored and unexplored chateaux” in 1998, followed, in 2001, by “COTE D’AZUR, from châteaux to palaces”. But soon their passion for uncovering the historic and aesthetic essence of chateaux alone was not enough, and Armel and Laurence Brucelle wanted to share the other aspects of Provence’s undoubted beauty and magic that had excited and touched them during their explorations, so their latest series of books, starting with “PROVENCE, evermore” (published 2005) also pays tribute to the diverse nature of the breathtaking landscape as well as the huge, rich architectural heritage of the Provence-Alpes Maritimes-Côte d’Azur region.
