 ARCOL Edition's News

Welcome to the website of Editions ARCOL, dedicated to the books of Armel and Laurence BRUCELLE, and inspired by the beauty and history of Provence and the Côte d’Azur. The two authors reveal their passion for the area’s history, heritage and magnificent scenery through dramatic photographs of seascapes and mountains, whose natural splendour serves as a backdrop to the artistic achievements of man.

Provence has long captivated the hearts and imaginations of lords, princes, popes and kings. With good reason, for every corner contains treasures which reflect its extraordinarily rich history. In the north lie the Drôme, the Gard, the Vaucluse plains and the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. From the west the flatlands of the Camargue give way to the creeks of the Bouche du Rhône, then the Var coastline dominated by the Maures mountain chain and the craggy Esterel, and, finally the sandy shores of the Côte d’Azur on the east.

It seems that every hilltop village, crag and cliff is crowned with Roman monuments, châteaux, fortresses, ramparts and chapels. Historic towns, like Avignon, Arles, Nîmes, Aix-en-Provence and Marseille boast archeological remains, churches and cathedrals, whereas buried in the countryside monasteries, abbeys and priories meditate peacefully on their past. And, at the very tip of Provence, where France touches Italy, the glorious palaces of the Riviera illuminate Cannes, Nice, Menton and the Principality of Monaco.

All these are divided into manageable individual circuits, presented in full photograhic colour, and make perfect gifts. The books are available to purchase here, on line. As you travel through this website we hope that you, too, will catch some of the enthusiasm for the glories of Provence which so inspired the writings of Daudet and the poet Mistral and the paintings of Cézanne and Van Gogh.
